Capacity & Risk Assessments

Capacity Assessment

Balancing the right of an individual to determine their own specific life choices against their capacity to do so can be a challenging process. An informed and individualised capacity assessment carried out by an experienced practitioner will ensure that the balance is right.  INSneuro provides the expert assessment required for health and welfare, financial and placement decisions.

INSneuro undertakes capacity assessments for a range of presenting situations including:

  • Decisions about placement destination, where there is potential or actual known risk in the placement.

  • Decisions about involvement with rehabilitation/treatment programmes.

  • Decisions about financial arrangements/management involving actual or potential risks

  • Decisions about safe use of social media and restrictive practices.

Risk Assessment

INSneuro fully believes that brain injury survivors should be supported to live meaningful, valued and productive lives. In order to achieve this, comprehensive risk assessments, risk reduction and risk management plans are provided. Factors following brain injury include:

  • Behavioural/mental health difficulties: e.g. impulsivity, decreased insight and awareness, self- regulation difficulties, risk of self-harm

  • Vulnerability factors leading to exploitation: e.g. financially, sexually, abuse, neglect.

  • Introduction to/increase in substance use: e.g. illicit drugs, alcohol.

  • Increased dependence on others: e.g. due to inappropriate assessment of need, exploitative relationships.
